HERE'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT...

Since you were a child, the glow of the spotlight, the roar of the crowd always excited you, moved you, captivated you...

You dreamed, you hoped, you wished to be a star, a celebrity, a person who could bring audiences to the height of joy, or to periods of quiet reflection.

You studied, dreamed, worked to make your vision a reality. But like most people wanting to break into show business, you found little help in making your dreams come true.

Your fortunes are about to change.

You're about to discover a proven, sure-fire way to get your performing career started right away.

That's what this message is about ... showing you where to turn to find simple, yet detailed information GUARANTEED to get you started performing. That's where I come in. My name is Millard Grubb.

You may have never heard of me, but I’ve been performing for over 30 years and if you’ll listen closely, I’ll show you how to get your performing career started off right, and make money doing it.
Performing is more than showing off your talents, you must learn how to "entertain an audience." That fact took me a long time to learn. But in my hard-hitting ecourse, you’ll learn the lessons quickly that took me years to master.

You’ll learn how to get clients to have you back again and again. That’s one of the secrets to making it as a performer.

My secret for you…everything I have learned explained in an easy to learn e-course.

The Hometown Showbiz E Course

The Hometown Showbiz E Course is by far, the best thing on the subject of boosting a performing career no matter where you’re at..

The bottom line is this: If you want your experience and talent to stop being overlooked and start making you money, you MUST GET this course!

Why am I selling my hard-earned experience?

Simple. I’m tired of all the misinformation that’s being bandied about that supposedly helps performers get started.

I’ve been there.

I've been told to create a brochure and just watch the bookings come in ... It didn't happen.

I’ve been there when an agent booked me at a hotel with the stipulation that I MUST take another two weeks, two months down the road AND that SAME agent told the hotel that I would only work if I got the two weeks additional as well.

Talk about playing two ends against the middle! Don’t get me started on agents!

I don’t want what happened to me to happen to anybody. Ever!

I had to start booking myself after that experience.

Listen, even the not so pretty details of my career are being revealed.

Look, knowing how to put together an act that brings down the house is one thing, but putting it all together to get the best bookings like crazy is one of your MOST POWERFUL ASSETS. It's an asset that you can leverage and use to make yourself serious money every single time you apply the system.

The Hometown Showbiz E Course will show you how to master the "art and science" of not only making your act an entertaining powerhouse, but show you where to find the most gigs.

bullet-check-ALONE-blueYou will learn how I sent a little postcard and got a gig with Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop.

bullet-check-ALONE-blueYou’ll learn how a simple twist on an old idea brought 27 gigs.

bullet-check-ALONE-blueYou’ll learn how to make sure your act is noticed by the movers and shakers so you get gigs fast.

bullet-check-ALONE-blueYou’ll learn how to get gigs with people like Ray Stevens and Zig Ziglar at the same time.

bullet-check-ALONE-blueYou’ll learn an easy way to get promo photos for peanuts.

You want to go on the road?

bullet-check-ALONE-blueYou’ll learn insider secrets to make roadtrips pay off; also what to avoid so you don’t get burned out.

Wanna know what the real behind-the-curtain secrets are of a night club performer?

Pssst, don’t tell anyone. I share some of my most intimate moments on and off the stage.

An Important Secret!

bullet-XALONE-redThis ecourse is not for everyone.

If you cannot take straight-to-the-point language about building a career without whining, you don’t need to get this course. I pull no punches with my opinions.

Every week, like clockwork, you’ll receive an email telling where to download that week’s lesson. For a full six months.

Now listen. I was a magician, mentalist, and family entertainer for over thirty years, so my experience is in these fields. But these methods work whether you are a clown, juggler, singer, comedian, or tap dancer.

YOU WILL LEARN THE SAME ACTS I DEVELOPED
FOR SEVERAL MARKETS.

However, if you are any kind of entertainer, these methods will help your show. And the price is so compelling, how can you say no?

Can my methods work for you?

Maybe. Maybe not.

I don’t know if you really want to be an entertainer or you’re just looking around.

If you’re serious about creating a new career or just want to make your existing show business programs better, more fun to do, and make more for each gig, you owe it to yourself to get this ecourse.

This ecourse is my life’s work .... You are paying for my experience.... over 30 years of it.

Mistakes I Made

Like most performers, I started out doing birthday parties, family reunions, weddings, and all sorts of local functions. I was satisfied to get a few bucks while I was going to school, but as I got older and started working a "regular" job, I wanted more.

I didn't know anything more than to work on my act and pass out business cards. I hoped I would get a few gigs in the evenings and on week-ends to buy new equipment, clothes, and props, among other things.

But, underneath it all, I wanted to make a living as a performer. I wanted to show my folks and all those who laughed at me that I could do it...that I wasn't just a dreamer...wasn't just talking out of my hat.

But, try as I might, I kept making mistakes.

I kept buying books, watching videos,(This was before DVDs) going to lectures, calling professionals, going to conventions. It seemed as if there was some sort of "secret" that the professionals weren't exactly telling me.

No one told me when I was working nightclubs, to promote myself during the day, and to get to bed early after my last show.

Did I waste time? A lot of it.

No one told me to keep control of my act, and it
cost me a dunking in a public fountain!

The $10,000 Blunder

As I was working at my job as a behavioral specialist in a Chicago area United Way facility, I figured I had a deal that wouldn't fail. I met an author who sold a ton of books and was a self-proclaimed marketing expert. After meeting with him a few times, he convinced me to pay him to design a brochure. He supposedly had a great deal on printing and a fulfillment house for mailing to agents (Don't get me started on agents!).

This brochure was a work of art!

It was four-color with a spinner on the inside that looked like a hand. My photo was on the back along with phone number, etc. The brochure was geared to look like a Trivial Pursuit game and opened like a box.

I could see myself sitting by the phone as the calls started to come in. Agents would be so excited by the brochure, they would call in droves. (Have you been there?)

I mailed the brochures to 500 agents and meeting planners.

And waited.

And waited. And waited.

I didn't get a single call!

I panicked...

I wept...

I wanted to kill myself.

After I calmed down, I had a friend call 50 agents at random from the list I sent .... and I learned a powerful lesson.

The brochure looked good. It was top quality.

Yet, it failed to ask any of the agents to call me for a program!

I had presented myself in a colorful way, but failed to sell myself.

In an expensive lesson, I learned that marketing is the key.

Ya gotta have an act, yes, but you have to sell to someone who needs you and understands how you can help them. Your act is your product and you have to learn to sell the act as well as be a good entertainer.

And don't think that you have to be a fantastic performer either.

I know performers that are
passable entertainers, yet, make thousands of dollars a year because they have learned the secrets of selling themselves. More later.

My Disaster with Shari Lewis

I spied an ad in a trade magazine offering a "Giant-Sized" rabbit suit that would be "perfect" for grand openings, Easter Celebrations, and children's programs. I thought that this had real possibilities, so I went to my bank, borrowed $1,500 for the costume and got ready to mail some postcards.

This time I got about 4 calls and booked a country club show and a show with the late Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop at Chicago's prestigious Medinah Temple! All I had to do was introduce Shari to the packed house of kids, parents, and reporters while doing a simple magic trick.

Good grief! I got into costume and when they introduced me, the spotlight was so bright, I couldn't see a thing! My arms were waving about like a hummingbird while I tried to find the microphone. Someone finally handed me the mic and I was able to talk to the kids. But it was so bright I could not find my prop for the simple magic trick!

I was so glad I was in costume and no one knew who I was ! I had already been paid for the gig, so I got out of there as fast as I could....being ashamed to no end.

After this disaster, I decided that I would only do what I knew I could do and be myself, rather than just looking for the big bucks.

You'd think I'd learned my lesson by this time, but I kept getting up and trying again and again. My friends and family thought I was nuts. They thought I enjoyed being humiliated.

It wasn't that I was a glutton for punishment.

There was a fire inside of me.

A volcano of desire. The desire to succeed at what I loved to do.

I wanted to make people laugh. I wanted to make people applaud. I wanted to make people weep. And make money doing it.

Let me tell you about one more mistake I made and then you'll understand why I wanted to do all the booking myself.

Why Agents Scare Me

I was starting to do more shows and my name was getting out. So when an agent called me with a three week gig in my home state, I was excited. The only thing I had to do was agree to do a two week stint at the same hotel 3 months after the first one. I was working a full-time job at the time, so I figured I would use vacation time, sick leave, etc. for the first gig and then figure something out for the second one.

I did the first stint with good crowds and great reactions. About a month before the second gig was to start, I informed my boss that I needed two weeks off without pay for personal business.

I couldn't get the time off. So, I quit.

When I got to the hotel for the second gig, I found out that the agent who had booked me had told the hotel that the only way I would perform is that I had to be guaranteed two weeks in February, besides the first gig. The agent THEN told me that I could only take the first three weeks, if I ALSO booked the two weeks in February. So, the agent played both the hotel and myself against each other to make a little extra commission.

And it cost me an extra year to get my performing career going because of this blunder.

At that point, I decided that I would book all my own shows. Take care of all the legwork and control my destiny.

I had already proven that I could get booked for good money at some of the best hotels and clubs. Now, I just needed to book more programs, more often.

Like a man possessed, I snapped up every marketing book I could find. I went to every marketing seminar I could afford. I talked to everyone I could who was successful selling anything to anyone.

My career started to take off....and it hasn't stopped since. In the last 30 years, I have done over 3,000 shows...all self-booked. Once I developed a system for getting shows, it was just a numbers game. If I wanted to do 30 shows one month, I knew exactly what I had to do to make the numbers work for me. If I wanted to take it easy, then I just stopped using my system.

And through it all I realized that the reason I was succeeding was because I had a passion for my work. I truly loved performing and wanted to get better and better. Plus, I wasn't working at my career for the money, but instead I was working for the LIFESTYLE that having money gave me.

Funny to think about money that way, but it's not the money, it's what money allows you to do.

Listen, when you have money, you don't need a job, you don't have to work for anyone else. And not having to show up for work every day frees up a lot of your time. That's time you choose doing what you like.

Time spent with your family. Or your hobbies. Or on an adventure. Whatever you want.

But it wasn't all about marketing.

As I changed and my markets changed, I HAD to develop different shows for different venues.

A show for family audiences. A squeaky-clean show for corporate audiences. A school show. A Christmas show. An after-dinner show. A close-up show. A mentalism show.

I was doing mainly adult shows and close-up magic when I met a famous mindreader at a convention in Chicago. When talk got around to kidshows and family audiences, he pulled out a card and showed it to me. My mouth hit the floor!

The card described this world-known mentalist as a kidshow performer. He said,"Millard, you are missing out on a lot of money if you don't perform at kidshows and family functions."

This performer helped me make a few phone calls and I booked 18 shows ... even though I didn't have a kidshow!

Three professionals helped me put a show together and I started down yet another path in show business.

Yet, more important than that is.....

The Real Secret

Listen, I have a confession to make. It wasn't all me.

I had a lot of help from friends in the business industry that helped me learn how to sell myself. I went to seminars by famed marketing guru, Jay Abraham. I bought packages of materials from Bill Myers. I sat at the feet of Marty Chenard. I learned copywriting from Brian Keith Voiles.

I spent thousands of hours of experience and thousands of dollars to learn how to sell myself. Many of my promotions bombed. But enough succeeded that I made money. Marketing expert, Jay Abraham, explained that if he had only one thing he could do for marketing, he would use endorsements. And that technique is exactly what I used to kick my performing career into high gear.

Let me explain just what I did.

Having just moved into a new part of the country with few contacts, I knew that I had to do something innovative to make a splash and get shows.

I got a list of local schools and created a letter that gave a special one - time offer. I explained that I was new in the area and that I was looking for new clients. I further explained that during that month I was offering a program at an unbelievably low price so that everyone possible could have a chance to see my program.

I sent out 112 letters and booked 16 shows!

It gets better.

As a result of these shows I had three directors of schools write me letters of recommendations. But these letters were not simple testimonials. These were letters that were written on their letterhead and sent in school envelopes to every other school in the area!

What this letter did was effectively ENDORSE me to every one of the director's colleagues and give me a higher level of credibility. Usually a performer just sends a letter with a copy of a "Fan" letter. Can you see how this works?

This technique worked so well, that I filled a summer season of workshops from the three letters I sent to three different associations of schools. Let's say that you have just done a killer program for a group of dentists. They love you. You walk on water. Everyone is asking for your business card. You go to the person who booked you.

You ask if you could have a favor. Would the organization be willing to write you a letter? After they say yes, you ask if you could have the letter written to all the other dental organizations. You'll take care of everything. You'll handle postage, printing, mailing. Is it ok to print it on their letterhead you ask? In the vast number of cases, they will say yes, no problem.

When you have a good act and people appreciate you, it is no problem for them to endorse you. And it is very powerful. More powerful than anything you could do.

One More Important Secret

As entertainers, we have taken years to perfect our art, acts, voices, etc. Yet if we do not see ourselves as marketers, then we cannot get all the business we deserve.

Let's face it. We all sell our ideas, thoughts, insights, everywhere we go. We see a good film and convince our friends to see it. We buy a new car and we tell everyone what a great deal we got. We have a new sound system we use in our act and we tell everyone.

We always tell people to buy what we are already sold on.

Are you sold on your own act? Do you need a new one?

I am revealing in an easy-to-learn, week-by-week course, all my routines, all my tricks, all my shows, plus marketing tips, ideas, and techniques that will help you keep booked month after month.

Frankly, I am retiring from performing this year and want to teach a few folks EVERYTHING I've learned in my long career, from magic to mental entertainment to entertaining family audiences.

I also want to let a few people learn some of the hard-fought lessons I had to learn without spending thousands of hours and thousands of dollars to do it.

For many years there have been performers who have done a show or two and THEN sold products claiming to have all the secrets to the golden vault. When it came time to see their performances, let's say they weren't close to good.

But let's be honest. Even performers that aren't that good can sell a whale of a lot of product if they promise to make your dreams come true.

Plus , many of these packages cost HUNDREDS of dollars to obtain.

Can you make a boatload of money performing? Maybe, maybe not.

What I am offering the performing community are shows that have made ME money.

But much more than that !

I am offering you my life's work.

And I am doing it over the course of a six month's weekly course of study.

Never has a performer revealed as much as I am in this Hometown Showbiz E Course.

This is not a marketing course, but
a course on doing performing well.

I will include my marketing pieces along with letters, posters, postcards, and other items.

Here is what is included in the first few lessons:

1 Professor's Magic Show, Part One

2 Professor's Magic Show, Part Two

3 Easy Ways to Get Gigs

4 Publicity Made Simple

5 Birthday Party Magic

6 Using Birthdays to Make More Cash

7 Specialty Act Or Entertainer?

8 Shot At in a Nightclub (Avoiding Disasters)

9 Halloween Safety Show and Other Special Events

10 Behind Closed Doors With the Masters

11 Getting Started in Mentalism

12 Practical Mentalism Show

In these lessons I reveal EVERYTHING I have learned.

Even if someone has already bought a bunch of my stuff, they can still learn a few things. Especially the step-by-step approach I use to explain what I have done.

These lessons make it EASY for ANYONE to learn the performing business, not only the magic business.

When I started, I was fortunate to have people like JB Bobo, Ben Stone, Ron Urban, Joe Stevens, Frank Everhart, Jay Marshall, and many others help me.

I reveal many of the closed-door sessions I had with these individuals.

I teach you where I succeeded. Where I failed.

My LIFE is revealed in ALL my materials.

My SOUL is expressed in my discussions.

I am giving you MYSELF.

Again, why?

This is my legacy. I want to get my materials out to let people know there is a BETTER way to be a successful performer. I am looking to mentor a few folks. I want to see if other performers want to succeed as bad as I wanted to when I was younger.

Is there fire in anyone's belly?

I have also made it so inexpensive, that a college student living in a dorm eating Ramen© noodles could afford to learn from me.

AM I NUTS? Have I lost my mind?

Many might think so because these acts of mine have sold for hundreds of dollars in the past.

Why am I almost GIVING them away?

As I said before, this course will be my legacy.

It is important to get it into as many hands as possible.

Also, I am getting pretty tired of folks having to spend a lot of money trying to learn how to improve themselves.

Can you imagine paying $300 learning how to present a school show? That's what folks are paying!

If you are willing to trade in the cost of a fancy cup of coffee a week, FOR A FULL MONTH of lessons, then you are in the right place.

Here are comments from SUBSCRIBERS to the E Course:

Mr. Grubb,
I wanted thank you the wonderful course Six Months to Mastery. After receiving the first two lessons I feel like I just got the deal of the century! This is far more than the standard “common sense” marketing program that is peddled by the many “marketing gurus” that seem to be popping up everywhere these days. With your reputation as one who under-promises and over-delivers along with your association with the legendary Frank Everhart, I expected a quality product but, my word, this is FAR better than I expected. You not only provide the entire act in full detail, but include all of the subtleties and nuances that have gone into the creation of this well thought out act. With the information in the first lesson, I have some great tips on booking shows immediately. Thank you so much!

Dear Professor,

I feel like I've just hired a Magician's personal trainer.  This course is the best investment in taking my magical interests to the next level.  Being a pediatric Nurse by profession, It will be such a pleasure to be able to develop a working magic kids show to bring some happiness, as well as healing to the families I serve. Thank you Millard for sharing your experiences in this class, and helping us become better, practical and professional magicians.

I read through lesson 1 of Millard's course as soon as it arrived,  allowed it to settle, and then have just read through it again today.

The initial 13 pages was well received and my  first reactions were ones of a nicely presented, gently driven, learning curve which seemed (to me at elast) to start at a sensible and logical platform, and ended up at the perfect stopping off point.

With the bonuses and extra links included in it, this 13 page initial lesson became a 30 page, much fuller lesson, (always good to find hidden depths in something you think you are prepared for)  All in all, a very well presented and comprehensively planned start to what promises to be a very enjoyable course!

I not only like Millard's manner of presentation - simple and straighforward, I also like the narrative feel to the lessons.  Nothing too highbrow and nothing that is in any way condescending - something which can it seems be a difficult  platform at times in the teaching/instructional mode.

I should also mention that there were a couple of occasions where I chuckled out loud reading the script, and a couple of occasions where in mid read, I drifted off to thoughts of what I might bring to the suggestion made, or make of the suggestion given!

Hats off to the first lesson - and looking forward to the second!

Maria

Millard, just another quick note to let you know that (a) I received Lesson 3, (b) I am, once again, very impressed.

Once again, you have overdelivered.  And once again, you have whetted my appetite for more material -- i.e., your referral book looks like it will be a "must have."   If anything, having it arrive on a periodic basis is goading me to Do Something, Not Just Sit Here.  And if the course did ONLY that, it would be invaluable.  I think that may really be its best value -- that it's like a personal contact from you, encouraging us and all but putting the phone in our hands.

Between now and June, you're going to see my career as a wizard really take off.  Can't help it, with the encouragement you've been providing.

Again, some great work here.  I think this course may be your real calling in performing.  And that is high praise, because I believe that - other than parenting - teaching is the greatest calling one could have.  And to be able to do it as well as you are ...

Chet Cox, Columnist/Author
